GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. -- From A (the Auks in Delaware) to Z (the Zizzers in Missouri), USA TODAY High School Sports is asking fans to choose the most unique high school sports mascot in the country.
Beginning February 25th and running through March 25, USA TODAY High School Sports will feature a best mascot competition that opens with 255 of the most interesting school nicknames in the country. There will be three rounds of voting:
⢠State round: Today through March 5. Five schools per state (plus Washington D.C.).
⢠Regional round: March 6-14. The 51 state winners divided among six regions.
⢠National round: March 15-25. The six regional winners.
The school ultimately determined to have America's best high school mascot will receive $2,000 for its athletic department, while second place will be awarded $1,000. Third place will receive $500, fourth will take $250 and fifth will be awarded $100. The six winners then will compete from March 15-25 for the chance to be named the best high school sports mascot in America.
