CHANHASSEN, Minn. - The Mankato West football team defeated Chanhassen 28-21 in overtime Friday night.
It was a defensive battle throughout the first half as both teams were held scoreless. The Strom struck first in the second half when Ryan McGuire connected with Jared Lea for a 10-yard touchdown to give Chanhassen a 7-0 lead. The Scarlets answered right back when Ryan Schlichte found Will Claussen to tie the game at seven.
In the fourth quarter, Schlichte connected with Connor Watts for the go-ahead touchdown to give Mankato West a 14-7 lead. Chanhassen responded when McGuire found Chad Mapes for a touchdown to tie the game. Both teams battled back and forth until Mankato West walked away with the victory in overtime.
