ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Lisa Marvin's four goals and an assist propelled Warroad past New Ulm 9-0 Tuesday night in a Class A Minnesota state high school girl's hockey quarterfinal at the Xcel Energy Center.
Demi Gardner and Marvin posted goals in the opening period giving the Warriors a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission. Gardner and Marvin tallied goals in the second period along with teammates Kayla Gardner and Kimberly Schaible giving Warroad a comfortable 6-0 lead after two periods. With the six goal cushion, running time was instated.
Mariah Gardner scored just 57 seconds into the third period and Marvin scored two more goals later in the third to give the Warriors an easy opening round win. Warriors' goaltenders Dayton Hilgert, who played the first two periods, and Danielle Knott, who played the third period, combined to stop all 11 New Ulm shots they faced.
The win advances Warroad to the Class A state semifinal game Thursday afternoon.
