11:59 PM, Dec. 18, 2012 EST

APPLE VALLEY, Minn. - The Apple Valley boys' basketball team defeated perennial powerhouse Hopkins 73-64.

University of Minnesota Gopher head basketball coach Tubby Smith was on hand to watch Eagles star Tyus Jones in action. Jones played well in the first half until he fell to the floor awkwardly. Jones left the court and didn't return to action with reported back spasms.

The Royals took advantage of Jones' absence and jumped out to a big lead but the Eagles made a comeback in the second half. Dustin Fronk scored a game-high 27 points to help lead Apple Valley to a comeback victory.
