Goerlitz leads O-W to win over Rockets

OWEN - Albert Goerlitz controlled the paint the entire game and scored a game-high 20 points and Austin Milliren chipped in 17 points as the Owen-Withee boys basketball team downed the Rockets 62-48 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division tilt on Friday.

O-W used a 23-13 second quarter run to take the lead and padded the lead with a strong fourth quarter.

Mitchell Susa led the Rockets with 12 points, canning four 3-pointers.

Augusta 55, Columbus 36

AUGUSTA - Jared Fleischmann scored 15 points and Alex Baierl added 12, but the Dons were no match for the Beavers.

Joe Whalen led a balanced Augusta attack with 15 points and the Beavers used a 20-7 third quarter to put the game away.

"Defense was one of our keys," Augusta coach Paul Henrichs said. "Close out with high-hands and every guy stepped up and got it done on the defensive end tonight."

Auburndale 72, Assumption 40

WISCONSIN RAPIDS - Kolt Linzmeier had 16 points, but the Royals didn't have an answer for Auburndale's star player Austin Hawkins.

Hawkins poured in 30 points, as Auburndale outscored the Royals 46-12 over the second and third quarters.

Isaac Castellano added 13 points for Auburndale, while Kyle Roenius chipped in 10 for the Royals.

"It just got away from us and we didn't have a matchup for Hawkins down low," Assumption coach Gary Weisenbeck said.

Pittsville 50, Newman 47

PITTSVILLE - Pittsville's Brad Wesely and Newman's Nick Thoreson dueled from long range, but it ultimately was Wesely's Panthers who came out on top.

Wesely and Thoreson both were 5 of 8 from 3-point range as the teams combined to make 14 from beyond the arc.

Wesely finished with 19 points and got help from Trail Pierce, who had 17, as Pittsville came back from a six-point halftime deficit.

Thoreson got all 15 of his points from outside.

Marcus Gabriel and Tolga Ozturk each scored nine for the Cardinals.

Rhinelander 47, Medford 39

RHINELANDER - Hodags big man Shane White erupted for 27 points, including 15 in the fourth quarter, to lead his team past Medford in a Great Northern Conference game.

White was one of only four players to score for Rhinelander.

John Keefe led Medford with 13 points. Darren Leonhard added 11 in the loss.

Wausau West 47, Marshfield 42

MARSHFIELD - Anna Brown scored 16 points for the Wausau West girls basketball team as it got a big 47-42 Wisconsin Valley Conference victory over Marshfield on Friday.

Jasmin Samz had six assists for West while Kierra Kohlbeck and Brown each picked up four steals. Caitlyn Michaelis led the way for Marshfiled with her 11 points and three 3-pointers.

"We are extremely proud with our effort. For us to get this win is a big step for us with (Marshfield's) history. Hopefully, we can continue the momentum forward into the rest of the season. It's been a long time since we beat Marshfield down in Marshfield, something like eight years or even longer I think," Wausau West coach Patrick Galligan said.
