Marion Harding opened its swimming season last weekend with meets at Ontario.
The Harding boys downed Upper Sandusky 53-39 but lost to Ontario 128-53. The Harding girls team lost to Ontario 130-14 and to Upper Sandusky 69-14.
Austin Smith finished first in the 200 individual medley (2:39.74) for Harding in the boys meet. Jacob Reynolds was second in the 100 breaststroke; Jay Peterson placed third in the 200 freestyle; Caleb Jones was third in the 50 freestyle; Jonathan Green raced third in the 100 freestyle; Keaton Graff, Jacob Lester, Ty Endsley and Green were third in the 200 medley relay; and Jones, Smith, Endsley and Deshawn Wilson placed third in the 400 freestyle relay.
In the girls meet, Harding's Trinity Arend placed fourth in the 500 freestyle, and the 400 freestyle relay team of Marina Smith, Allison Skinner, Hannah Farley and Arend placed fourth.
"Our team did very well for swimming not only their first meet of the season but also for some of them their first meet ever," said Harding coach Kristin Gandee. "There were a lot of new swimmers that stepped up and did their teammates and coaches proud. We can only get better from here and I am looking forward to seeing the results."
