Wilkinson County coach Aaron Geter is up for best basketball coach in the nation, as part of USA Today's 2014 Best of Contest.

During 26 years, Geter has coached teams to a 543-176 record, which includes six state championships.

Geter played for Mercer University's basketball team from 1983-1987, earning 1,206 points in his college career.

USA TODAY High School Sports selected six active high school basketball coaches in each state and Washington, D.C. after more than a month of conversations with local media and other state/school officials with expertise.

From there, the fans will decide which boys basketball coaches will emerge from a list of 306.

There are three rounds of voting: the state round from Jan. 14-21 with the winners and top two wildcards nationally advancing to regionals.

The regional round runs from Jan. 22-30, with the winners and top two wildcards moving onto the final round.

The final national round begins Jan. 31 and ends Feb. 7.
