Georgia High School football kicks off in less than two weeks, and most Central Georgia programs are busy preparing for their season opener. And that's exactly what Coach C. Wright and his Southwest Patriots are doing.
The Patriots are trying to erase memories of a 3-7, season last year. Wright boasts his ball club returns 13 seniors to help lead the way in the newly aligned 2AAA. But despite senior leadership, Wright says his team is young. He's hoping what they lack in experience they will make up in effort but he also knows only time will tell.
"When you're young like we are you wish you had more time to get these kids ready to play, but when it gets out of our system we start missing it and get ready to play and you can't leave it alone" , says Wright. "We're so young, I'm scared to death, I don't know what we are going to do. We can go one of two ways and hopefully we'll take the upside way and hopefully have a little success early and that will feed into the rest of the season."
Southwest opens early on August 24th against Dodge County at Henderson Stadium.
