It's the final countdown for Boys GISA soccer this weekend and it's down to two familiar rivals in AAA. Those two teams are Mount de Sales and defending state Champion Stratford Academy. The Eagles soar into this contest, 16-1-2 on the heels of a championship in 2012. One of the headlines of this game will be the final appearance for junior standout Morgan Sowell and head coach James Jordan who has resigned his position at the end of the school year, but Stratford says the main focus is winning.
Across town, the Mount de Sales Caves stand at 16-5. Two of those losses came at the hands of Stratford during the regular season. Head coach Iain Jones says his boys have come a long way from early playoff elimination last season. Jones says the key to the Cavs having success on Saturday is simple.
"I think the biggest thing for us is that we have to stick together", explains Jones." If we stick together and we don't start to implode or get frustrated with one another, we can make it a long game. Our goal right now is to try and compete and hopefully cause some trouble for them."
Jordan counters, "It's the best stage that one could imagine at this stage of the season to play MDS in the final. There's a lot of seniors for them and obviously the coach is a good friend of mine and we want to defend our title.
Game time is Saturday at Spencer Frank Hays field at Stratford Academy starting at 7:30pm.
