Stratford Football Coach Steps Down

1:58 PM, Dec. 12, 2012 EST

Wednesday, a letter from Stratford Academy went home to parents explaining that head football coach Rodney Collins is stepping down.

Collins says he wants to spend time with his family and his grandchildren.

He told our Suzanne Lawler that coaching is a daily grind and it's time to step aside.

Over his 21-year tenure, Stratford says Collins has built a record of 158 wins and 95 losses with three state championships and five regional championships. Twice, his Eagles teams were state runners-up.

This year, the team went 8-4.

Collins plans to remain at Stratford and teach elementary school physical education.
