This weekend Macon will once again lay out the red carpet for some of the biggest sports names in the country.

You may recognize names like Skip Carey and Buck Belue this weekend at the Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

But a name that may not be as familiar made his mark here in Central Georgia.

J.B. Hawkins spent 25 years coaching basketball in Crawford County.

The Museum will honor him posthumously.

Hawkins earned 1,073 wins, and in over two decades on the sidelines he only had three losing seasons.

His team won the 1969 State Basketball Championship.

And he took home state coach of the year seven times.

"Everybody is very very excited," said Ben Sandifer from the Sports Hall of Fame. "His family for the most part resides here in Macon so they were very excited. Plus the Crawford County school system everyone in that part of the state is very excited too."

Tickets for the Saturday night ceremony are sold out.

However you can visit all of the folks getting inducted during Fanfest Saturday afternoon from 1 to 3.

It's in front of the Sports Hall of Fame, and it's free.

The inductees will sign autographs. Plus you can grab some freebies.
