JJ Stephens Memorial Clinic Hits Warner Robins

11:50 PM, Dec. 03, 2012 EST

Around 20 high school baseball players got out their bats and gloves at Houston County High School Monday to learn from college coaches.

The Georgia Southern baseball coaching staff traveled to Warner Robins to host a clinic in honor of former player Jerome "JJ" Stephens.

"We're going to focus on fundamental skills of the game, both offensively and defensively and run the kids through some drills," explained GSU head coach Rodney Hennon.  "It's a great opportunity for us to get some exposure for our program here in the Houston County area."

Stephens died in 2005 from injuries in a car accident on his way back to Statesboro.

"I'm sure he's loving the fact that his name is still going on, doing what he had a passion for," said JJ's brother Jason.  "That's show-casing young guys talent in this area.  He always wanted to do that."

JJ played baseball at Northside High School.  Then he went on to play college ball at Savannah State and Georgia Southern.
