Georgia High School softball got underway in Bibb County Wednesday afternoon with the Lady Chargers on the road facing the Howard Huskies at their new housewarming party.
And with the first pitch of the season thrown by Principal Mark Adams, Howard High School opened the Lady Husky ball field for the very first time since the school opened 5 years ago. Before today the softball team has called either the boys baseball field or the DeFore Complex home, but after today they know have a place of their own to hang up their spikes.
"We are certainly very excited that it is here," says head coach, Kevin Adams. "Our girls are excited that they have a place that they can call home and we're gonna kick it off with a bang this year. There is certainly nothing like home but this will allow our students to stay on campus and not have to travel across town to be at a home game."
And in the inaugural game, Howard enjoyed the celebration so much they went on to unplug the Chargers 17-2 in only 3 innings. Next home game is Monday against Lamar County starting at 4:30.
