Sydney Humphrey is a senior at Houston County High School that loves to paint inside the lines on her canvas while in Art class, but out on the pitch, she's all over the place trying to will her team to a victory.
Her head coach Syd Baxley explains, "She's played soccer all 4 years, and at this time, she's played everything but goalkeeper. She's scored goals and she's saved goals. We're having a great season. We've only given up 3 goals all year and a large part of that is because of Sydney."
A great season to the tune of the Lady Bears being 7-1 on the year so far, and Sydney loves it.
"It's a great distraction from everything else," says Humphrey. "Whenever you're playing, you don't have time to focus on the rest of the day. You have to play the game."
Sydney applies the same intensity of soccer play in the class which helped earn her a scholarship to keep kicking it at the next level.
"That's just one worry that I don't have with her", says Baxley. "When I checked eligibility with her at the beginning of the year, and I checked to make sure and she was fine."
And with a 3.8 GPA, that serves as proof why this senior understands life as a student athlete.
Humphrey says, "My grades are very important to me, just because they are always expected of me from parents, so that's what I always try to have. And having good grades does help when I play soccer, because I don't have to worry about that part of my life."
