BCANY Hoops Festival: Hudson Valley girls, boys swoop into semifinals

The Section 1 Hudson Valley girls basketball team earned a berth in the BCANY Summer Hoops Festival semifinals with a come-from-behind 105-88 win over Buffalo at Johnson City Saturday. Earlier in the day, Hudson Valley defeated Suffolk 83-61.

Down by as many as 15 in the first half against Buffalo, Hudson Valley ended the half with a flurry to take a two-point lead into halftime.

"We started off slow again, but picked it up in the second half," Hudson Valley coach Dan Ricci said. "In the second half, our pressure got to them and we wore them down."

Ossining's Saniya Chong led the team with 25 points. Hamilton's Maia Hood scored 24 points.

Against Suffolk, Chong scored 24 points. Ossining's Destini Walker had 14.

Hudson Valley will play Southern Tier in the semifinals at 11:15 a.m. today.

Boys: Eastchester's Jack Daly had 16 points, five rebounds, and five steals to lead Hudson Valley over Buffalo 80-69 and into the BCANY Summer Hoops Festival semifinals. Earlier in the day, Hudson Valley beat Rochester 94-91.

Against Buffalo, Briarcliff's Brian Daniels had 17 points and five rebounds. North Salem's Umar Singh had 14 points and seven rebounds.

Against Rochester, Daniels had 20 points and five rebounds. Singh had 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Hudson Valley will play Mid-Hudson in the semifinals at 12:30 p.m. today.
