State wrestling championship set for Arkansas high schools

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Top varsity wrestlers will face off in the Fifth Annual High School AAA sanctioned Arkansas State Wrestling Championship Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

The tournament will be held February 22 through February 23 at UALR's Jack Stephens Center. Friday session begins at 1 p.m. and continues until 9 p.m. Saturday competition includes quarterfinals, semifinals and finals. Saturday's sessions run from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.

The state's top high school star wrestlers will compete in two main categories. 1A through 5A athletes will compete in one area (mats 1, 2 and 3) while athletes from 6A and 7A will compete in another area (mats 4, 5 and 6).

Greg Hatcher, President of the Arkansas Wrestling Association and Tournament Co-Director, sits down with THV 11's Craig O'Neill to talk about the growth of the sport in Arkansas.
