Showcase Game of the Week: Jonesboro vs. LR Central

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- It's been 10 years since these two teams have matched up. The last time - a 2002 first round playoff meeting that ended in a 9 - 8 victory for Jonesboro.

Tthanks to conference realignment, the Hurricane and Tigers will be seeing more of each other.

"Jonesboro is a very good football team. They're well coached. They're well disciplined. They're going to be a tough opponent for us," says LR Central head coach "Scooter" Register.

Jonesboro is coming off a big win against conference rival West Memphis. It's the second time in two years they've beaten the Blue Devils. But last year, the Hurricane got caught up in that victory and lost their next game to Searcy.

This year, coach Randy Coleman, says will be different. Coach Coleman says his team must prepare mentally and stay focused in order to come away with a win.

The tigers, on the other hand, are coming off three straight losses - after opening the season with a win against Catholic.

"[The] kids are resilient and they've had a good week of practice. They know this is going to be a tough opponent. But the one thing we've got going for them is that we're playing at home for the first time. So hopefully that'll be a little bit of an incentive for them," says Register.

Central must clamp down on defense, not allowing Jonesboro to snag any late scores as they did against Searcy in week three.

"We just [have] ot to eliminate our mistakes. We have to show up to play. That's going to be it. Last week we made a couple errors in the fourth quarter that really cost us the ball game," Register adds.

As we approach the halfway point of the season, both teams are looking to capitalize on this game to make a stand in conference play.
