CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) -- It's going to be a big test for Magnet Cove and Conway Christian in Week 9 of high school football in our THV Showcase Game of the Week.
They say defense wins games. But when you have a quarterback like Tanner Stevenson, who has more than 1,600 yards on the season, the odds are in your favor.
"I tell you what, as a coach, it's great to know that you've got a young man out there that's a great player, that leads the team and has a great arm. He's also got a great cast of people around him. Just last week had a phenomenal week, 15 of 15 is just a special night. He did great things last week," says Conway Christian head coach Michael Carter.
But then again, 21 interceptions on the season isn't so bad either. That's the most interceptions in a decade at Magnet Cove.
"As a defensive coordinator, you want to pick the strengths of a team and stop them on Friday night. And now, this week, we've got three days to prepare to stop probably one of the best passing attacks in 2-A football in Conway Christian. I hope we can keep them guessing, that's what I hope," says Magnet Cove Head Coach Ronnie Efird."
Conway Christian and Magnet Cove each have a loss heading into this game. The winner of this game will have a huge advantage when it comes to seeding as they head into the playoffs.
"We'll be automatically the number one seed in the conference, which is big. By doing that we'll hold the first two rounds of the playoffs at home. So that's a big thing right there," Efird adds.
"It's big. It's big for our program. We started way back in July actually talking about goals and one of our goals was to win a conference championship. It's nice. I keep telling the kids, it's nice to hold your destiny in your hands and not let someone else hold it. Right now, we got it in our hands and we don't want to let go," says Carter.
It's a battle for the top spot in class 2-A that will be decided on the field Friday night
