Bearden High retires Coach Holly Warlick's basketball jersey

11:28 PM, Oct. 26, 2012 EDT

Lady Vols basketball head coach Holly Warlick thought she was simply part of the senior-night festivities at Bearden High School Friday evening.

However, the school had a surprise waiting for the 1976 Bearden grad.

In a ceremony before the game, school officials retired Warlick's number "22" basketball jersey, which she wore during her high school career that racked up more than 1000 points on the court.

"I'm stunned, I'm shocked. I was just coming to greet everybody!" Warlick said. "It's unbelievable."

Warlick's family and friends came to surprise her as well, along with the Lady Vols team.

Looking back on her high school career, Warlick joked:

"Our players weren't even born when I was playing in high school! This is a throwback, absolutely!"

The coach said she is proud to be an alum and still in Knoxville.

"Everybody [who] knows me knows I went to Bearden High School, because I'm very proud of it."
