ORLANDO, Fla. -- The magical run in the playoffs has come to end for the Clay High School football team as the Blue Devils lose to Plantation American Heritage 66-8 in the Class 5A state championship game on Friday afternoon.

American Heritage, a team loaded with future college football players, scored on a 78 yard touchdown run on their first offensive play of the game.  That set the tone for the rest of the day as Clay didn't score until late in the 4th quarter.

The Blue Devils were the surprise team of the playoffs after a (6-4) regular season.  Clay defeated Ribault in the first round of the playoffs and then followed that up with a thrilling 74-73 win over Bishop Kenny.

The following week, they stunned previously undefeated Pensacola Catholic with a game-winning touchdown as time expired.  Last week, they defeated St. Petersburg Lakewood 40-38 to advance to a state championship game for the first time since 1967.
