A preseason analysis by The Star of the basketball schedules of 80 area high school programs revealed 79 are not in compliance with Title IX. (Tournament games were not included in the study and the information does not reflect any games that may have been shifted after the original schedule was published.)
Boys and girls are required to have 'substantial equity' in the number of games played in primetime -- Fridays, Saturdays and the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Shortridge was the only school in compliance. (Bishop Chatard's girls were scheduled to play more often in primetime than the boys.)
Only 44.4 percent of the girls games are played in primetime, while the boys played 76.3 percent.
