The Hamilton Southeastern High School girls basketball team's last three opponents are a combined 11-2 not including their losses to the Royals . . . and the tough stretch isn't over yet.

The Class 4A No. 1 Royals host Brownsburg (3-1) and University of North Carolina recruit Stephanie Mavunga at approximately 7:30 p.m. tonight.

"In the past eight days, we've had to go through Westfield, Fishers and Carmel, so to win those three games, and two on the road, has been a good (stretch) for our kids," Royals coach Chris Huppenthal said.

Tonight's game will feature another duel of two of the nation's top seniors in Mavunga and HSE's 6-3 Taya Reimer. Reimer, No. 4 nationally by ESPN HoopGurlz rankings, has committed to Notre Dame and Mavunga is ranked No. 23.

The Royals have won the past two meetings between the teams. Brownsburg's last victory over HSE was a one-point overtime win Dec. 2, 2009 when Reimer and Mavunga were freshmen.

"Stephanie is obviously a force inside and we're going to have our hands full with her," Huppenthal said. "But I also feel they're going to have their hands full with Jessica Pongonis and Taya Reimer."

Reimer is averaging 22 points and 10.1 rebounds. Reimer scored her 1,000th point in Saturday's 63-55 victory at Carmel. She now has 1,009 and will be honored before the game as the fourth HSE player to crack that barrier. Pongonis, who recently signed with St. Joseph's University, an Atlantic 10 school in Philadelphia, is averaging 9.8 points.

Zionsville golfer wins

Zionsville High School junior Adam Wood, ranked No. 4 in Polo Golf junior golf rankings, used a nice comeback to win the America Junior Golf Association Polo Junior Classic title in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., last week.

Wood rebounded from a 2-shot deficit after three holes to beat Scott Scheffler, Dallas, 3 and 1 in match play. Wood was helped by six birdies. Wood, who committed to Duke last spring, placed second in the high school state tournament as a freshman but had a rare off-day in the 2012 event, shooting a 78 and Zionsville missed the cut for the second day.

"His worst day of the (season) was the first day of state finals," Zionsville coach Steve Simmons said. "He was still all-state on his body of work. (Winning state) is one of his big goals (this season)."

Etc.

The Indiana-Kentucky All-Star basketball series will be played at Freedom Hall in Louisville on June 14 and at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on June 15. . . . Todd Sheely, who has been Center Grove girls soccer coach for the past 10 seasons, has been named the Trojans' boys soccer coach. He replaces Phil Orlando, who retired after 14 seasons. The Trojans reached the Final Four for the first time last season. Under Sheely, the girls have captured nine sectional titles, seven regional crown and one semistate title.

It will be Mustache night when the Lawrence North girls basketball team hosts Ben Davis on Thursday night. Anyone with a mustache gets in free. Fake mustaches will be sold with all proceeds going to benefit cancer research. . . . HSE senior forward Zak Irvin, a Michigan recruit, was named one of the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association/Subway Players of the Week. The 6-7 Irvin averaged 27.0 points, 9.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists in leading the Royals to a 3-0 start to earn boys' District 2 honors.

The National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association will present Fishers athletic director Jim Brown with the Distinguished Service Award during its banquet on Dec. 18 in San Antonio, Texas. Brown has been athletic director since Fishers opened in 2006. Brown previously was the athletic director at Triton Central. . . . HSE senior shortstop Wes Edrington signed with Nebraska. . . . Carmel senior shortstop Kyle Fiala has signed with Notre Dame.
