Avon High School sophomore outside hitter Beth Prince, considered one of the top volleyball players in the country, has made a verbal commitment to the University of Illinois.
"She visited some other schools recently and I think she realized her heart was set on Illinois," Avon coach Scott McQueen said.
The 6-3 Prince had offers from Penn State, Texas, Florida, UCLA, Washington, Southern Cal, Purdue and Indiana, among others.
Prince helped lead the Orioles to a Class 4A state title in November. She had 505 kills, 45 aces, 192 digs and 57 blocks last season. Prince was recently selected to the Prep Volleyball All-American team. Prince is a two-time Indianapolis Star Super Team Player of the Year. She was named ESPN National Freshman of the Year in 2011.
