Check out our database to see how schools have scheduled games differently for boys and girls basketball.
The Star did a survey of 80 of the 81 high school basketball schedules (Indiana Math and Science girls were not available) prior to the season. (Tournament games were not included in the study and the information does not reflect any games that may have been shifted after the original schedule was published.) According to Title IX, the boys and girls are required to have an equal number of games on Friday and Saturday nights. (The categorization of Saturday afternoon games has not been determined legally so the numbers with and without them are provided.) Bishop Chatard is the only school in compliance. Only 29.7 percent of girls games are played on Friday or Saturday nights and the Wednesday before Thanksgiving (44.4 percent if Saturday afternoons are included). The boys play 73.9 percent of their games at such times (76.3 percent if Saturday afternoons are included).
