Former Broad Ripple standout and Indiana recruit Ron Patterson committed to Syracuse while on an official visit Saturday.
The 6-3 Patterson, Broad Ripple's all-time leading scorer, is spending a post-graduate year at Brewster Academy (N.H.). He chose to attend prep school instead of enroll at a Division I school in August after he was denied admission at Indiana. Patterson had been enrolled at IU in two summer school courses in the summer though a faculty sponsorship program for students who had not met all of the university's requirements for admission (though he was fully eligible by NCAA standards). Patterson was told in August that he would not receive the faculty sponsorship for the fall semester. Xavier and Providence were also considered among the frontrunners for Patterson's services. Patterson was a four-year starter at Broad Ripple and was named to the Indiana All-Star team as a senior after averaging 18.5 points.
