Purvis' Chip Bilderback will be the second defensive coordinator tasked with defending Oak Grove's Brett Favre-guided offense.
But Bilderback isn't concerned with Favre or Oak Grove.
Q. Has anybody asked you about game planning for an offense coached by Brett Favre? A. No one's really said much about it. As long as he doesn't put on pads and dress out on Friday, I feel OK. But to be totally honest, we're at a point where we're just focusing on ourselves. What we look for every week is we have to improve and get better. We need to work on Purvis getting better and being ready for Friday night. I don't think all that other stuff plays into it as much. Q. How would you rate your defense's performance against North Forrest last week? A. We're a young team, especially up front, and we just need some game experience. We lost a bunch of guys off last year's team. As the game went on, we fought and fought, but I think our youth did show up especially late in the game. But it was a great learning experience for those players. Q. Did anybody stand out to you on Friday? A. As a whole, we had different people step up at different times. I don't necessarily think it was any one or two guys. Q. What do you think about the rest of your schedule? A. Tylertown will be really good - they return a ton of players and have a lot of guys back at the skill positions. South Pike made it to the third round of the playoffs. Our district (Region 7-4A) is always tough and athletic. It's a fun league, because it's so competitive. Q. How long have you been at Purvis? A. This is my seventh year at Purvis. I was also here for two years right out of college under Wayne Carr, before going to Perry Central for two years. Q. What are the highlights for you since you've been at Purvis? A. I think in year two, we came in there and made a transition. We went from 3-7 to 6-6 and earned a four seed in the playoffs. We went on the road to South Pike and beat them in overtime. That was not only a highlight, but a turning point at Purvis. It showed, 'We can do this here with this system.' But every year, there are different highlihghts and different games that stick out.
