Evangelical Christian School's Sarah Candiano placed third and her teammate Sarah McBeath finished one spot behind her on Saturday at the Region A-3 meet on the campus of Holy Trinity in Melbourne.
Candiano completed the 5K course in 18:28.84 and McBeath in 18;53.72. The Sentinels placed eighth as a team with no other runners in the top 50.
Holy Trinity's Julie Wollrath, among the contenders for a 1A state title next weekend, won the race in 17:53.30. The Tigers won both team races and Holy Trinity's Alex Brown (15:46.23) was the winning boy.
The top ECS boy was William Lunsford in 39th with a time of 18:21.03.
REGION 2A-3
LaBelle senior Erick Medina qualified for next Saturday's state meet by placing fourth in 17:02.25 at the Region 2A-3 Cross Country meet in Holiday.
The Lehigh duo of Christian Vazquez (17:17.37) and Miguel Casiano (17:20.77) placed eighth and ninth, respectively, to also advance. Gateway Charter's Alyx Gonzalez (17:21.18) was right behind in 10th.
Immokalee won the meet while LaBelle finsihed sixth with Bishop Verot seventh and Lehigh 12th in the 14-team field.
Bishop Verot senior Katie Avery finished 23rd overall in 2:13.70 and LaBelle's Ana Figueroa took 30th in 22:34.30 to be the only local girls in the top 50.
