The Winnebago Lutheran boys basketball team was sitting pretty with less than 3 minutes left in a season opening nonconference game at Campbellsport.

By the end of those 3 minutes, the Vikings had to hold their breath as a game winning 3-point attempt caught the back iron allowing the Vikings to escape with a 33-31 win.

Campbellsport trailed 30-17 before going on an 11-point run with a putback basket by Isiah Daniels making it 30-28.

WLA broke the ensuing press and Mitch McFarlane scored on a layup and was fouled to make it a five-point game with 29 seconds left. Jordan Dreikosen, who was a big reason for the comeback, nailed a 3-ball on the next possession to bring it back to a two-point game.

WLA missed a bonus free throw after being fouled, setting up the Cougars' final 3-pointer that wouldn't drop.

Ben Wolff led WLA with 10 points, while Dreikosen and Daniels each had 11.

The Vikings play at Manitowoc Lutheran next Tuesday. Campbellsport's at KML on Friday.
