Spartans smash Horicon

12:00 AM, Nov. 13, 2012 EST

At times it looked like a first game, but that was to be expected from a young Laconia basketball team which starts two sophomores, according to its coach Tom King.

Still, the Spartans handled the visiting Horicon Marshmen, 48-27, on Thursday in nonconference action.

"(Tyler) Semenas and (Tyler) Rickert, they have good senior leadership out there; they keep the guys settled down," King said of his two seniors.

Semenas had 10 points on 5-for-9 shooting, but faced a defense intent on stopping him, King said. He had four assists to go with six rebounds and three steals. Rickert, who had six points, matched Semanes in steals.

It was a sophomore, however, that led the team in scoring as Noah Greve had 13 points and made it a double-double with 10 rebounds.

"He had an outstanding game for us as a sophomore," King said.

Laconia led 22-8 at the half and held Horicon to single digits in each of the first three quarters.

"I thought (on) the defensive end (the team) was outstanding," King said.
