In a gigantic field at the 75th Annual Midwest Invite, Chris Leisses was the top finisher for the Fond du Lac cross country team by taking 36th out of 265 runners.
Leisses finished the course at Janesville's Blackhawk Golf Course in 16 minutes, 42 seconds to lead Fondy, which finished 27th in the 39-team field.
Fondy's girls team took 25th as a team with two runners in the top-100 of the 248 runners. Megan Buechel ran in 16:01 to take 56th and Annie Moore took 93rd in 16:32.
The Ledgers' top two girls held their own against mostly Division 1 competition at the Len Nikolai Invite in Manitowoc. As a team, Springs took 10th in the 18-team field.
Sophomore Liz Bohn ran in 15:22 to take fifth individually. Abby Busse was 11th in 15:36. Brookfield East freshman Rachel Werking won the race in 14:50.
"The girls really competed well against these D1 and D2 schools," said Springs coach Shane Smith. "Some of these schools are the top ranked schools in D1 and our girls weren't afraid of them. Abby Busse has been stepping up and improving each race and looked strong again today reaching a PR."
Springs' boys finished in 15th. Andrew Skiff ran in 18:04 to take 47th and Alan Burkart was 53rd in 18:10.
Laconia's boys took fifth as a team led by Chad Stahmann, who took 13th in 17:10. Zach Zimmerman came in 22nd in 17:38 and Mitchell Freiberg was one spot and one second behind.
The Spartans' girls took eighth. Hailey Isaac ran in 15:29 for fifth individually, but was the only Laconia girl in the top 40.
