Mick McCabe picks the state's top-25 players. Here are Nos. 21-25. (Come back Monday for Nos. 16-20.)
21) Nate Jeppesen
OG/DE, PORTAGE CENTRAL
Vitals: 6-4, 265.
Scouting: A powerful force on the offensive line, he dominated defensive linemen. He has quick feet and good overall speed, allowing him to chase down ballcarriers from his spot at defensive end. Committed to Toledo.
22) Berkley Edwards
Vitals: 5-9, 189.
Scouting: Much is packed into his small frame that gained more than 1,800 yards and scored 20 TDs last season. A sprinter in track, he has good acceleration and breakaway speed. He is an excellent pass receiver and isn't afraid to block linebackers.
23) David Curle
OT/DT, UTICA EISENHOWER
Vitals: 6-3, 275.
Scouting: A two-way tackle, this will be his third season starting offensively. He is athletic enough to play tight end and will also play some defensive end. He had 42 tackles as a junior. Starts at center on the basketball team, runs track and plays baseball.
24) Jack Doyle
LB, GROSSE POINTE SOUTH
Vitals: 6-0, 220.
Scouting: He led South with 135 tackles as a junior. He has good speed and strength, but what makes him special are his instincts to find the ball and get to the ballcarrier quickly. He is a sure tackler and covers the entire field.
25) Christan Gore
DE, MACOMB DAKOTA
Vitals: 6-3, 245.
Scouting: He was tripled-team as a nose guard last season. This season he will play defensive end, where his lateral quickness can be more effective. He has long arms, and his experience in wrestling and basketball has made him an excellent athlete.
