Runner makes astounding comeback

He endured a 13-feet fall that fractured his skull and nearly ended his life. He was unconscious in a hospital for 10 days.

Prior to the injury, Haebe was at the pinnacle of Division II running.

His list of achievements include:

  • 2012 RMAC Men's Cross Country Freshman of the Year
  • 2011 RMAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Freshman of the Year
  • 2011 NCAA Division II Men's Cross Country National Champions
  • 2011 NCAA Division II Men's Cross Country National Championship Team
  • 2011 USTFCCCA NCAA Division II National Men's Runner of the Year
  • 2011 RMAC Men's Cross Country Academic Runner of the Year
  • 2012 NCAA Division II Men's 3,000-Meter Steeplechase National Champion
  • 2012 RMAC Indoor Track and Field Men's Academic Athlete of the Year
  • 2012 RMAC Scholar-Athlete

Haebe talked about what it was like to perform at such a high level.

"It college it was nationals last year. I won that, which was really fun," Haebe said. "It was awesome. It was so much fun with my team right there next to me."

Four months after the accident, Haebe is running again. The recovery process is slow, but he expects to be reunited with his Western State teammates next year.
