"We're getting into that mold where the kids are really battling, and it's the first time I've seen that in a long time," Lindsay said.

"This means a lot to us and we have a lot to prove to ourselves that we can compete."

Lindsay, 54, was born in Denver and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1977.

He was a running back at the University of Utah where he graduated in 1981 with degrees in physical education and history.

He oversees attendance at Denver South High School.

The Denver Broncos will recognize 10 High School Coach of the Week honorees during the regular season.

Each weekly winner will receive a $1,000 donation from the NFL Youth Football Fund to be used in the school's football program.

Additionally, during the Broncos' home game on December 30th, the NFL/Denver Broncos High School Coach of the Year will be named and presented with a $2,000 donation to the school's football program.
