HS football roundup: Jones' late TD run lifts Highlanders

Quarterback Darius Jones scored on a 1-yard run with 2:20 left to give McKean a 14-8 comeback victory over Dickinson in a Blue Hen Flight B game in Milltown.

Darius Jones' winning touchdown, his second of the game, finished off a drive that started when the Highlanders (5-5, 4-4) recovered a fumble on the Dickinson 30.

Dickinson took an 8-6 lead in the fourth quarter when the Rams (2-8, 1-7) blocked a punt and recovered in the end zone. But after Dickinson received the subsequent kickoff, Jones intercepted a pass to stop the Ram drive.

Darius Jones had 100 yards rushing, including a 4-yard touchdown in the second quarter, and 102 passing. Imani Jones also had an interception for the Highlanders, who won the annual "Backyard Brawl" for the seventh consecutive season.

Laurel 36, Seaford 30

LAUREL - David Cornish scored on a 6-yard run with 1:05 left to complete a fourth-quarter comeback and give Laurel a victory over rival Seaford in a Henlopen South game.

Cornish's winning touchdown finished off an 80-yard drive and completed a 22-8 fourth-quarter eruption by the Bulldogs. Cornish ran for 135 yards and two touchdowns while sophomore Chuckie Auguste rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns. Auguste also passed the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season.

Glasgow 12, William Penn 0

Quarterback Stephen Kowalski ran for 125 yards and two touchdowns as Glasgow blanked William Penn in a Blue Hen Flight A game at Glasgow.

Kowalski scored on a 1-yard run in the third quarter and added a 62-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter with about six minutes to go.

William Penn (4-6, 4-4) subsequently drove down to the 5-yard line, but an interception in the end zone by linebacker Loyal Ricks with a minute left ended the Colonial threat. Glasgow finished the regular season at 6-4, 5-4.

Red Lion 35, Moyer 12

Robert Richardson ran for three touchdowns and passed for another to lead Red Lion Christian over Moyer at Red Lion.

Richardson amassed 140 total yards, including a 9-yard touchdown pass to Ricky Emerson on his only throw of the night. He ran for touchdowns of 7, 65 and 35 yards.

Emerson got the Lions (3-6) off to a rousing start by running the opening kickoff back 80 yards for a touchdown. He rushed for 98 yards on the night. Javon Adams and Jordan Fisher each made six tackles to spark the Lions defense. Moyer finished the season at 1-4.

DMA 46, Conrad 7

Shawn Brown rushed for 223 yards and three touchdowns to lead Delaware Military Academy over Conrad at Caravel Academy in Glasgow. Brown scored on runs of 8, 8 and 56 yards. Tevin Williams added 84 rushing yards and two touchdowns on just five carries, scoring on runs of 15 and 40 yards. Conrad finished the season at 1-9.

Concord 13, Appoquinimink 9

MIDDLETOWN - Grant Roberts scored two touchdowns in the second quarter to give Concord a victory over Appoquinimink in a Blue Hen Flight A game.

Roberts scored on runs of 9 and 7 yards after Appoquinimink took an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter on the strength of Andrew Jones' 25-yard field goal. After Concord's second touchdown, Malacchi Esdale ran back the subsequent kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown but the Jaguars (5-5, 5-3) could not score again. Concord finished the regular season at 6-4, 6-2.
