WILMINGTON - Elena Veale's unassisted goal with 16:31 left in the match proved to be the game-winner as No. 5 Wilmington Friends edged No. 12 Milford 1-0 in a DIAA Field Hockey State Tournament first-round match.

The Quakers advance to face Caravel in the next round, at a site and time to be determined.

"She dodged one or two kids and played it into the far post," Wilmington Friends coach Anne Brooking said of the goal.

Brooking said Quakers goalie Emily Horwitz, who made eight saves in the game, "was huge for us in the first half" but faced no scoring threats after halftime. The Quakers improved to 13-2-1.

Milford goalie Rebekah Yanacek had nine saves. The Buccaneers finished their season 10-6.
