ASHBURN, Va. (WUSA 9) -- Friday's region semifinal against Broad Run could have been the last home game of Briar Woods quarterback Trace McSorley's high school career. Despite an injury, the Vanderbilt-bound senior was determined to make it count, and he did.

McSorley completed 23 of his 34 passes for 294 yards and two touchdowns.

"I knew it was going to hurt, [but] I just knew I only get one last chance my senior year," said McSorley. "My team did a great job rallying. At halftime, we were preaching: 'There's a family, nothing can break this bond.'"

McSorley secured the Falcons victory, 37-34, with a 2-yard touchdown run in double overtime.

Briar Woods will advance to next week's Virginia 5A North region final.

BURTONSVILLE, Md. (WUSA 9) -- Northwest topped Paint Branch 55-36 in Friday's Maryland 4A semifinal.

The Jaguars will face an undefeated Suitland squad in the Maryland 4A state final at M&T Bank Stadium on Friday, December 6.
