Da'Shawn Hand verbally commits to Alabama

WOODBRIDGE, Va. (WUSA 9) -- Thursday, Woodbridge defensive end, Da'Shawn Hand turned 18 years old.

The senior, who is one of the top high school football players in the country, celebrated by announcing to the world, on live TV, that he'd be playing football at the University of Alabama next year.

Hand is ranked number one in the nation by Rivals.com and sixth in the class of 2014 by ESPN.

Hand had 94 offers by his senior year and also seriously considered Florida and Michigan. Hand plans to major in civil engineering and said he chose to roll with the Crimson Tide because Alabama offers "... the perfect balance of academics and athletics." 

"They've got my major and they're a winning football team," said Hand. "And we're just going to win some more."
