High School Sports Rewind: Sept. 23 - Sept. 29

Relive some of the biggest happenings from the past week in Northeast Ohio prep sports.

Monday

The Gilmour Academy athletic department has signed a three-year contract with Nike. Over the course of the next three to four years, all the school's athletic uniforms will be replaced with the Nike brand, according to a news release posted on the school's Web site.

Mentor junior standout pitcher Kade McClure recently orally committed to attend the University of Louisville and to play for the Cardinals' baseball program, according to the Prep Baseball Report.

Tuesday

Minster High School senior baseball standout Adam Niemeyer recently orally committed to attend Ohio State in fall 2013 and to join the school's baseball program, according to the Prep Baseball Report.

Thursday

Hathaway Brown senior standout girls basketball player Stephanie Poland recently committed to attend Colgate University in fall 2013 and to join the Patriot League school's women's basketball program.

The Akron Firestone boys golf team placed first at the City Series golf championship for the third year in a row at Mud Run Golf Course on Thursday. Senior Falcon Philip Martin scored a 2-under-par-66 to finish atop the individual leaderboard.

Saturday

According to a Columbus Dispatch news story, a law passed in August now requires all athletic booster clubs handling more than $25,000 to file annual reports with the Ohio attorney general's office.

The Woodridge boys cross country team scores 62 points to win the team title at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park Invitational while the Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy girls cross country team captured its own team title at the event by tallying 60 points.

Massillon Jackson sophomore Landrie Grace set course and tournament records at the girls Postseason Federal League Tournament at The Sanctuary on Saturday by scoring a 2-under-69 to help the Polar Bears claim the team title.

St. Thomas Aquinas' Cory Glines and Minerva's Kaele Lightfoot both repeated as individual champions at the Stark County Cross Country Championships on Saturday.
