Chillicothe's wrestling team split a tri-match at home Wednesday against Whitehall and Adena.
The Cavaliers lost to the Rams -- a highly regarded program this year with several state qualifiers on its roster -- 42-21. Chillicothe shut out Adena 69-0.
Against Whitehall, Nick Lawhorn got a pin in the 106-pound weight class against Matt McGarran. Sophomore Caleb Price (132) lost in a 17-7 decision to the Rams' Josh Delgadillo, but the showing was more important than the decision, Cavs coach Mike Peck said.
"I was proud of him," Peck said. "We're a young team, but Nick didn't look young. It was a hard-fought match against a good opponent."
Chillicothe's Christian Collins (152) had the same kind of showing in a 10-9 loss to Whitehall's Ifa Abdujelil.
"I was really proud of Christian because he had to cut weight," Peck said. "He put in a lot of work, and he wrestled really well."
Trevon Bond-Pennington got Chillicothe's other win of the day by coming back from an early deficit to win by pin in the second period of his match against the Rams.
"It was a good day," Peck said. "We had a lot of fans there and they supported us really well. It was a positive day, and a good sign of things that are coming."
Chillicothe will head to a tri-match Tuesday against Nelsonville York and Warren.
