KENMORE, N.Y.- A spot in the Monsignor Martin playoffs was on the line Tuesday night when Cardinal O'Hara and St. Francis tipped off Tuesday evening at St. Joe's. St. Francis came away with a two point, 57-55 win in a thriller.
St. Francis took the lead early in the game, after going up 13-5 after the first quarter. St. Francis surrendered the lead in the second quarter, and found themselves in a hole in the fourth quarter. O'Hara took a ten point lead with 3:30 left to play, but St. Francis went on to hit their final 5 three pointers.
The Red Raiders rallied on to win late thanks to Junior # 13 Treyvon Holness, who sank two free throws with 15 seconds left to give St. Francis the win. Holness finished with a double-double, grabbing 13 rebounds and adding 10 points. # 33 Ragan Schichtel also chipped in with a team high 11 points.
St. Francis lost to Bishop Timon on Monday night, which was a draining game for them according to St. Francis Head Coach Brian Ferris. "After the emotional senior night game at Timon last night it took us till about three minutes left to get going, but we made the big shots when we had to, the guys never gave up and we live to play another day" said Coach Ferris.
Cardinal O'Hara was led by Junior # 2 Zack Glowacki with a game high 18 points. " It was a hard fought game, we were up by 12, the kids gave a great effort and everything they had, we just came up a little short" said Cardinal O'Hara Assistant Head Coach Mark Magiera.
St. Francis improves to 8-17 overall, and move on to play the number one seed, Canisius on Thursday at 5 PM at Canisius High School.
