Randolph Drops Tuckahoe 28-7 for NY State D Title

3:58 PM, Nov. 23, 2012 EST

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- Randolph ran for 313 yards on its way to claiming the Class D championship with a 28-7 win over Tuckahoe at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse on Friday.

This game will go down as the last for Head Coach Pat Slater, who won his third championship with Randolph (2005 and 2009 being the others).

"This is the best way to go," said Coach Slater, who will be moving out of the Western New York area after 33 years of coaching the Cardinals. "Every time we've won these last four weeks you know it's getting closer, it's getting closer. This is the best."

#20 Jordan Dowiasz had 145 yards on 18 touches and two touchdowns and #43 Chris Doubek had 101 yards on 12 carries including a 39-yard touchdown.

The Cardinals came out blazing in the first quarter, scoring on their first play of their second possession on Doubek's touchdown. After a missed extra point the score was 6-0 with 5:06 left in the first quarter.

On the next Randolph possession it was Dowiasz's turn to take it to the house on a 43-yard touchdown scamper. Quarterback #9 Mitch Maycock took the two point conversion in himself to give Randolph a 14-0 lead with 1:49 left in the first quarter.

The Tigers would not go away as they forced a Maycock fumble to start the second quarter before driving 44 yards and capping it off with a #28 Nick Reisman four-yard touchdown cutting the Randolph lead to 14-7. That score would hold until halftime.

In the second half it was all Randolph as they felt a Class D Championship getting closer. The Cardinals put together a drive that lasted 7:21, mostly in the third quarter, before Dowiasz punched it in from two yards out on the first play of the fourth quarter.

#29 Jared Pitchford would score from six yards out with 6:22 left in the fourth quarter to seal the Cardinal victory, and the Class D state championship.

"It's perfect," said Dowiasz after the game. "We came out 1-2 nobody expected us to come here and we came out with a win and I didn't think anybody expected that."
With this being the last game for Coach Slater a lot of the players felt that they were playing this game for their coach.

"We went all the way here and this is all for him," said offensive lineman #76 Cody Oldro, who was named the most valuable player.

Coach Slater would be quick to make sure the focus was on his kids and the job they did this season.

"It's not about coach. This isn't about me," said Coach Slater. "This whole season is about the kids and what they do and they just kept getting better."

Randolph ended the season on a 10 game winning streak after starting the season 1-2 to finish the season 11-2. Most importantly they finish the season as New York State Class D champions.
