HAMBURG, N.Y.-Nichols and Frontier played an overtime thriller Friday night at Frontier with the Vikings coming out on top 90-87.
It was a matchup of two teams with contrasting styles. Nichols got the majority of their points in the paint and Frontier did most of their damage from the outside. The Falcons hit 19 three pointers including eight of them in the fourth quarter.
The game's high scorer was number 5 for Nichols sophomore Chris Miner. He had 29. Teammate # 24 Liam Ryan had 19. For Frontier the high scorer was # 4 Shawn Fisher who finished with 19 points. Brandon Jewett #24 had 18.
Nichols head coach John Reinholz told Two On Your Side's Stu Boyar "we were down by three late in regulation. Liam Ryan drove to the basket and made the three point play to send it to overtime. I felt like our guys were hustling to close it out but they shot amazingly well. Basically it was two very different types of teams. We scored most of our points in the paint. We had trouble contianing them. they shot the lights out. "
Frontier coach Gary Domzalski told Stu "I'm very proud of the guys. They were down 16 in the fourth quarter and could have packed it in. They hit eight three's in the fourth quarter. That's good for a whole game. I can't say anthing to console the kids. Give them credit for not throwing in the towel."
Frontier is 6-5 overall and 4-3 in league play.
