Good Start to Season Key for Cleve Hill

DEPEW, N.Y.- Coming off an impressive 2011 season which saw the Cleveland Hill Golden Eagles post an 8-2 record and an appearance in the Section VI C championship at Ralph Wilson Stadium, head coach Glen Graham is excited about the possibilities for his team this season.

A great season rarely ends without the loss of a few good players, and Cleve Hill is no exception. The Golden Eagles graduated 1st-Team All-WNY Daryl Spencer. They do return a couple of good Thomas's, RB Brandon Thomas and All-league linebacker Jonathan Thomas, and a rising senior that will run the offense in Jacob Radlich.

"We have most of our skill players back, and we're just looking to stay competitive and be in the mix this year," Graham said.
Graham also feels his team's biggest strength will be on defense this season despite some inconsistency on that side of the ball last season. And on offense, "we're just hoping to remain consistent. We want to be able to run the ball and take care of the ball and not get ourselves into a hole."

Cleve Hill will play a very tough schedule, and with a fairly inexperienced team Graham knows they will have to be focused and ready to play every week. "We can't overlook anybody. We're going to be young early in the season so we have to come out of the gate with our best effort."

Right out of the gate the Golden Eagles are playing one of their biggest rivals as they host Maryvale on September 3rd at 2 p.m. Graham and his boys are looking forward to it. "We're one of the few schools that start off with a rival in Maryvale, we're getting close to our 60th game with them," Graham said. "Cross-town rivalry, no one wants to lose that one."
