DEPEW, N.Y.-Following a season that saw the Cheektowaga Warriors go 9-2, they have a new head coach. Mike Fatta will take over the reins as head football coach of the varsity football team for 2012-2013 season.
"It's exciting, it's something that I've always wanted to do and something that I've always strived to do," Fatta said about being named the head coach succeeding Scott Zipp.
Head coach isn't the only change that the Warriors will have to face this season. The team lost 20 seniors to graduation at the end of the school year and will have to find players to step up and fill the void. "Not that we're starting over, but we have a crop of kids coming from JV that are on the younger side," Fatta said.
Fatta coached the defense last year for the Warriors, but now will have to pay a little bit more attention to the offensive side of the ball as head coach. Fatta says he is ready for more offensive responsibility and says the transition to head coach has been relatively easy.
"I don't think there's going to be a huge hurdle in terms of the transition...the staff is intact pretty much from last year so we're looking forward to it," Fatta said.
The Warriors will open up their season against Tonawanda.
