A Warm Reception for Coach Cunningham

12:15 AM, Jan. 08, 2013 EST

ELMA, N.Y.-It was quite a homecoming for Eva Cunningham Monday night at Iroquois. Cunningham who is the Chiefs all time leading scorer returned to Iroquois for the first time as a head coach.

Cunningham who is the coach of the Buffalo Seminary Red Tailed Hawks told Two On Your Side's Stu Boyar she was looking forward to the game all day. "I was actually kind of anxious for the game today all during the school day I was oh geez we play Iroquois tonight."

Before the game Chiefs public address announcer Bill Quick read a tribute to Cunningham and her players had a chance to see her plaque on the Iroquois Wall of Fame outside the gym. Erica Luciano told Stu "I  think its pretty inspirational to know that our coach did all of that and the fact that she's in the Hall of Fame and everything it shows that we could do it too. "

The girls took it on the chin Monday against the Chiefs losing 90 to 21 and its been a tough season so far as they are 2-6. So how patient is coach Cunningham ? Senior Francesca Schreck said "unless we're doing something very wrong. She'll get a little upset at us but beside that she's nice."

Cunningham who is also Niagara University's all time leading scorer admits she still wishes she was playing but is enjoying coaching. "And so many times I yelled at the refs hey can I put a jersey on real quick ? Just to get out there but its fun coaching and teaching the X's and O's to the team and just see what they can do with it."

Coach Cunningham said she looks forward to someone breaking all her records.
