Viera High junior-to-be Greg Young was one of four qualifying for the 15th annual Teen Masters Grand Championship with a top competition finish at Freeway Lanes in Wickliffe, Ohio, on Thursday.

Young bowled 6,932 over 34 games and went 11-5 in match play to advance to the August tournament at Vanderbilt Hall in New York's Grand Central Terminal. The four finalists will bowl for more than $100,000 in scholarship money.

Young, an All-Space Coast bowler the past two seasons for the Hawks, won the under-15 division of the Teen Masters in Reno, Nev., in 2010. Now 16, he will compete in the 18-and-under category during the Aug. 5-8 event.

In Ohio, Young placed third behind Kamron Doyle (7,303 points) of Brentwood, Tenn., and Jacob Ettinger (7,053) of Lafayette, Colo., who will be his semifinal opponent.

Every bowler will claim at least $3,000, but the winner will take home $64,000.

"Sixty-four thousand would pay for college and everything," Young said. "Definitely, this is the biggest thing I've ever played in. Right now, I'm just excited I made it. When the time comes to play, I'll be nervous, but my head will be in the game when it starts."

Young was in Indianapolis on Saturday preparing to bowl in the week-long Junior Gold for one of 10 spots on Team USA, which will compete internationally. Young was named an all-star at the Junior World Team Challenge in Las Vegas in June.
