The Gull Lake volleyball team captured its second straight district title on Saturday in impressive fashion.
The Class A top-ranked Blue Devils defeated Mason 3-0 (25-9, 25-9, 25-19) to advance to face Portage Central in the regional semifinals on Tuesday, 5:30 p.m. at Portage Northern High School.
Gull Lake (56-6) was led by its pair of Miss Volleyball Award finalists in Leah Perri and Katie Schau. Perri finished with a match-high 16 kills along with eight digs and six blocks. Schau had 28 assists and 12 digs. Also for the Blue Devils, Emily Flaget had nine kills and Kendy Sosnoski had three aces.
The Michigan High School Athletic Association State Semifinals and Finals will be at Battle Creek's Kellogg Arena, Nov. 15-17.
Among the locals still alive are Class D top-ranked St. Philip, Marshall in Class B, Bronson in Class C and Bellevue in Class D.
The six-time reigning Class D state champion Tigers will play a rematch of the 2011 final when they take on Wyoming Tri-unity Christian on Tuesday in the regional semifinal at Climax-Scotts High School beginning at 6 p.m.
Marshall will take on Plainwell on Tuesday in the regional semifinal at Vicksburg High School, beginning at 7 p.m.
Bronson will take on Concord on Tuesday in the regional semifinal at Concord High School, starting at 6 p.m.
Bellevue will host a regional, and will play Westland Huron Valley Lutheran on Tuesday beginning at 7:30 p.m.
