The Harper Creek wrestling team opened the season by going 1-1 at the Gull Lake Quad on Wednesday.
The Beavers defeated Galesburg-Augusta 42-30 before losing to Portage Central, 48-34.
Six Harper Creek wrestlers went 2-0 in the quad. Matt Krustch (140 pounds), Tyler Robinson (145) and Kaleb Masten (285) each recorded a pair of pins, while Luke Browne (103), Mitch Coon (112) and Jake Bishop (135) went unbeaten.
"We had four freshmen wrestle in eight matches, and we won seven-of-eight," said Harper Creek head coach Dave Studer. "I'm real happy with the freshmen we got."
Homer 37, (at) Union City 25: Homer received pins from Matt Banks (130 pounds), James Blair (215) and Tyler Prater (285) in the Big Eight Conference victory.
Union City's Aaron Watson (140) also recorded a pin.
