The Region 6-AAAAA and 6-AAAA cross country meets produced 12 qualifying teams from DeKalb County for the state meets to be held at Carrollton on Saturday, November 10.
Lakeside and Dunwoody spit the titles in Region 6-AAAAA with the Vikings taking the boys' title 34-63 over the Wildcats.
Lakeside's Davis Stockwell took individual honors in 16:56.18 as he led a group of five Vikings to finish in the top 12 at the meet.
Jedrek Higgins was fourth in 17:12.35 and Dawit Alemu was sixth in 17:23.09 as three of the Vikings were in the top 10 to cross the line. Cooper Gray (17:37.81) and Will Smith-Purcell (17:39.35) were 11th and 12th, respectively for the Vikings.
Dunwoody was led by Adam Christopher (17:16.71) in fifth and Blake Tiede (17:24.44) in seventh.
Clarkston which finished third (67) and Southwest DeKalb which was fourth (79) earned state berths along with the top two teams. Clarkston was led by second place finisher Hussein Sadik (17:09.27) and Southwest DeKalb was led by Jacques Williams (17:12.13) in third.
The Dunwoody Lady Wildcats had five runners in the top 10 to cross the line to nip Lakeside 31-32 in the points' standings.
Lakeside had three in the top 10 led by individual winner Jennifer Cora who clocked a time of 19:14.43 to avenge a loss in the county championships to Dunwoody's Alex Cameron who took second in 19:25.34.
Lakeside had two other runners in the top five in Hayley Keady (19:35.69) in third and Victoria Thompson (20:12.16) in fifth.
Dunwoody's region win was fueled by four more runners in the top 10 including Kailey Williams (20:03.28) in fourth, Ansley Heavern (20:43.41) in seventh, Ann-Marie Sills (20:52.90) in eighth and Erin Berger
(21:13.13) in 10th.
Tucker got top 10 finishes from twins Niama and Nuba Jackson to take fourth behind North Atlanta and earn a trip to the state meet. Niama was sixth in 20:26.13 and Nuba was ninth in 21:09.64.
Host Marist swept the Region 6-AAAA cross country titles, but three DeKalb boys' teams and two girls' teams qualified for the state meet on Saturday, November 10.
Second place Stone Mountain (57), third place Chamblee (82) and fourth place Redan (91) qualified along with Marist (16) in the boys' meet.
Stone Mountain had three runners in the top 10 led by Abel Abay in fifth in a time of 17:32 while teammates Abdullahi Ahmed (18:19) and Nahome Abera (18:20) were seventh and eighth, respectively.
Redan's top finisher was Cedric Roberts in ninth in 18:21. Chamblee was led by Alex Krupp with a time of 18:32 good for 11th.
Marist also took the girls' meet with a perfect score of 16 followed by Grady (50), Redan (81) and Chamblee (87) with all four moving on to the state meet.
Chamblee's Madeline Wetterhall was the only top 10 finisher as she took seventh in a time of 21:27.
The Region 2-AAAAAA cross country meet is set for Saturday, November 3 at Luella beginning at 9 a.m. with DeKalb participant Druid Hills competing in both the boys' and girls' races.
Cedar Grove, Cross Keys, McNair and Towers are set to compete in the Region 6-AAA cross country meet hosted by St. Pius at Nash Farms Battlefield in Hampton on Saturday beginning with the boys' at 10 a.m.
