LOVEJOY, Ga. -- The practices at Lovejoy High School have been very businesslike this week, as the Wildcats head into the semifinal round of the GHSA State High School Football Playoffs.
Last year Lovejoy made it to the state championship game and suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the Tucker Tigers. This team has used those memories as motivation. "That loss in the Georgia Dome last year has been a guiding light for this team," says head coach Al Hughes.
Last week Lovejoy dispatched North Gwinnett 21-6. Once again, it was the Wildcats fast defense and the running of Travis Custis that proved to be a winning combination. Custis, a Georgia Tech commit, has rushed for over 18 hundred yards and 30 touchdowns this season.
In order to make a return to the Georgia Dome Lovejoy must first face an 11-2 North Cobb team this Friday night.
